About Jessica Lalloz (also known as "Hedgehog in the Fog")

 I was born in a small town in the East of France to a family of hotel and restaurant owners.  My husband never misses the chance to make fun of my hometown; he calls it “the middle of nowhere”. It is in this “middle of nowhere” that everything began. It is where my life was shaped to what it ​is ​now.

My father and his family were hotel and restaurant owners, whereas my mother was born in Guatemala, in a wonderful place with an incredible view  of three volcanoes and the lake, Atitlan.

Since the men were in charge of the kitchen and  the women were in charge of management, I spent my time between the reception, doing my homework with my grandmother and sometimes answering to calls, and watching the cooks in action. This beautiful lush green grass doubled up as my playground.

Growing-up in a bilingual environment and with an international family,  the “wanderlust gene” came naturally to me, and so as part of my course, I went to Tyumen (Siberia) for a year with main the interest of studying Russian. Later I would travel across East of Europe as a Gastronomy Consultant.

I lived in Eastern Europe for two years. While I was there, I focused all my energy towards promoting French wineries in Russia--latest French frontier.

For almost a year, I spent two of my weekends every month, with a tribe of boys scouts. It was as exciting as it was backbreaking! Being among this tribe of little monsters was  the most restorative cocktail I had ever had! ​

Those two years were kind to me. After all, that is when I found  love! I met this American guy who later became the love of my life and now my husband! After meeting my husband, I always knew that I would eventually move to the Pacific West Coast with him, eventually making our way to Bellevue!

Being in the United States, it was only necessary, to relearn English. U.S. brought good things my way too - my husband introduced me to sailing, I discovered my yogi soul. But that’s not the most important...

When I came here, I found a great opportunity to renew the family tradition of cooking. Luckily for me, I have an esteemed food critic at home who will give his very honest opinions. This helps in making me an even better cook.

I was also lucky and beyond ecstatic  to find a large variety of organic vegetables and fruits. This was extremely important for me since the secret of tasty food is based on the quality of the ingredients used.

​It is also here in the U.S. that I had the chance to reflect on my professional life. With a little help from my loved one, I realized that the best way to find myself and show my talents, was to work with children. Kids are a source of inspiration for me. Being with them, only  grows my thirst for knowledge every day.

Now that I live on the Eastside (Bellevue), I am very grateful for the vibrant French community. I am easily found in our new Theater project, Les Seagulls.
